Corn cobs, corn silk, hibiscus & saffron - 2024

$1,115.00

Not even sure where to begin with this one. I wanted to use the corn husks but they felt too warped and inconsistent to create a favorable outcome. While sifting through them, using the silk alone came to mind. I think that was the right move.

I didn’t intend for it to look like some kind of blazing inferno. I also didn’t expect the hibiscus to end up turning ocean blue overnight. I’m assuming this was a result of me adding a touch of red wine vinegar. It became a deep shade of blue I haven’t unlocked before.

Saffron water was applied with a spray bottle and the brewed hibiscus was poured through the corn cobs (and encouraged to run down the length of the canvas). Scraping the dried silk off the following day was extremely satisfying.

This piece definitely expresses the mood and energy of the summer season.
