Achiote, asparagus trim, snap pea trim & pig blood - 2024

$1,230.00

Achiote is one of those pigments that basically stains immediately as it hits the canvas, whereas others require hours (if not days) to absorb. The pattern in the back reflects that immediacy. This piece took a full week to dry and scrape. You’d think that demonstrates my patience but the dripping blood detail indicates otherwise.

I once again tilted the canvas prematurely to remove the vegetable scraps and see the impression left behind. Turns out the blood I poured over the vegetables wasn’t completely dry. Just enough liquid blood remained to drip from the ends of the asparagus trim and create something that looks intentional.
